New Year's concert by students attracts a crowd

On January 19, 2012, the Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) Student Art Troupe played an exclusive concert to ring in the Year of the Dragon. The combination of traditional music, dance, and singing turned out to be a great success; Group T's theater was packed.

Traditionals explained

The orchestra played traditionals like Walking the Su Promenade, Spring on the Xiang River, and Wusuli's Sailor Song. There was dancing and singing, all to Chinese folk music. In between performances, the various instruments were introduced: their history, how they are used... After the concert, everyone gathered for dim sum at the reception.

The SJTU Student Art Troupe

Shanghai Jiaotong University's Student Art Troupe was founded in 1994. It counts 16 students and 2 professors, representing all the university's faculties and is made up of a symphonic orchestra and band, a choir, a dance- and folk orchestra, and a theater group. Over the years, the company raked in awards at several competitions, both at home and abroad. In 2012 they perfom in Germany and Belgium.

Shanghai Jiaotong University and Group T

Shanghai Jiaotong University and Group T have been partners for several years now. SJTU entered Group T's Joint International Engineering Program in Engineering in 2006. More recently, SJTU also became involved in the Hongzhi Engineering Scholarship, also a Group T initiative. A Flemish Group T student also completed part of his master studies at SJTU.

Founded in 1896, this prestigious Chinese universtity ranks at number 124 in the 2011 QS World University Ranking and at number 37 in the field of Engineering and ICT.
