Active Bionic Systems and Biomechanics
Coordinator: Prof. Kathleen Denis, kathleen.denis@groupt.be
The future of our health is not only an issue of doctors and health care professionals. Over the last decade, many new innovative technologies have been integrated in health care. Nevertheless, although a lot of engineering applications are extremely useful for medical applications, they do not reach the clinic. The ‘Health Engineering’ research team of Group T Leuven Engineering College is developing and integrating novel technologies for medical and paramedical applications in support of our future health.
Active Bionic Systems (ABS) focuses on the development of systems to improve the comfort, independence and mobility of people in general and elderly and disabled in particular, by supporting or replacing certain human or physiological functions, by electronic or electromechanical components.
Biomechanics focuses on the use of vibrational techniques to assess the stability of orthopedic implants, such as hip, knee or shoulder implants.
