BEHIND THE IMAGE | THE IMAGE BEHIND
on covering and uncovering media

February 10 till 15,  2009

Festival for media art
Artefact offers performances, concerts and a large, comprehensive group exhibit at STUK arts center. The 2009 edition's theme is “Behind the Image, The Image Behind (on covering and uncovering media)”. The exhibition presents 17 artists, both local and international ones. Their work explores the hidden or invisible backside of images.

Lecture at Group T
This year, Artefact also comes to Group T. Julius Von Bismarck (Germany) and Dan Phiffer, Mushon Zer-Aviv, and David Nolen (USA)will present and explain their work at Vesalius Campus.

  • Manipulating images
Julius Von Bismarck's Image Fulgurator allows you to enter other people's images. While someone is taking a picture, the device projects an image onto the person or object being photographed that is invisible to the photographer. The manipulation becomes clear once the picture has been taken.
  • Intervening on sites
Dan Phiffer, Mushon Zer-Aviv, and David Nolen (US) offer a new online public space with ShiftSpace. Once a browser plugin has been installed, the user can add an extra layer to a site of their liking. This can be an interpretation, an intervention, new context, etc.

When? Wednesday, February 11, from 14:00 to 15:00
Where? Vesalius Campus Theater
Registration? Not necessary. Everyone is most welcome.
